Finance Manager - Professional Services

Company Background

Our client is a boutique professional services firm with a strong reputation for excellence and industry recognition. Operating in a highly regulated environment, they provide trusted expertise across complex client matters and have built long-standing relationships within their sector.

The business is guided by experienced and pragmatic leaders who value efficiency, accuracy, and a solutions-focused approach. With steady growth and plans to further strengthen their operations, they are now seeking to consolidate their finance function under a single, capable leader.

Their modern CBD offices with harbour views, and a supportive, professional culture, make this an outstanding opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a hands-on, standalone role. Flexibility and working from home available too.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Partner, this standalone Finance Manager role will take full ownership of the firm’s finance function and provide trusted support to its leadership. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing end-to-end finance, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, and partner reporting
  • Ensuring trust account compliance and reconciliations
  • Delivering reporting on KPIs, WIP, billings, and collections
  • Overseeing accounts receivable, billing, and debtor management
  • Liaising with external accountants on year-end accounts and tax matters
  • Driving process improvements to strengthen efficiency and accuracy

Your Background

To be successful in this Finance Manager role, you will ideally have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a broad finance role, ideally within legal, property, or another regulated environment
  • Proven trust accounting knowledge and compliance experience
  • Strong technical skills across reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Excellent attention to detail combined with the confidence to follow up on billing and collections
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with partners and provide clear financial insights
  • A proactive, hands-on approach and the resilience to thrive in a standalone role
  • Experience with Xero and ActionStep preferred
  • Ideally, CA or CPA qualified, but not essential
