Financial Controller - Construction Materials

Company Background 

Our client is an established medium-sized enterprise that enjoys a reputation for excellence in the construction materials industry. Due to their continuing rapid growth, Richard Lloyd has been engaged to recruit a Financial Controller for their finance team. 

Reporting to a talented and experienced CFO who thrives on watching her team develop, you will have the opportunity to grow both your skillset and career. You will be the second in charge in the department and be a ‘go-to person’ for multiple stakeholders.

The Role

Your role as Financial Controller will play a key position in the team. Key initial duties include (yet, certainly not limited to):

  • Management of the day-to-day accounting function 
  • Supervision of a team of six accounting staff members
  • Management of regular and accurate monthly management reporting to key stakeholders including senior management and the Board
  • Preparation of the consolidation for the group of entities including elimination entries and analysis of results to budget/s
  • Fulfilment of their annual tax and compliance obligations including payroll, FBT Income Tax, and worker compensation returns 
  • Managing the year-end financial audit with external group auditors
  • Assistance with the preparation of the consolidated financial statements
  • Management and review of the monthly consolidated Business Activity Statement
  • Assist in the preparation of the detailed 3-way budgets and update periodically throughout the year the annual budget and reforecast
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate cash flow forecasts for the group
  • Ensuring accurate project accounting including budget input into the ERP and cost allocations
  • Accurate project profitability analysis across each of the projects for monthly review

As you become more confident with your duties, the CFO will look to expand your remit, ensuring you are continuously evolving professionally. 

Your Background

To be considered for this Financial Controller role, you will be a qualified Accountant (e.g. CA / CPA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) and will meet the following: 

  • Staff management having overseen a team of direct reports in a similar role previously
  • Proactive individual who thrives in a busy and fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to remain hands-on
  • Confidence with group consolidations is a pre-requisite
  • Experience in the aforementioned tasks 
  • Proven examples of driving process improvement initiatives
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Relatable industry experience (e.g. construction materials, manufacturing, construction etc…) would be regarded highly
