A Systems Accountant is a specialist role and acts as the interface between the finance team and the IT department, focusing solely on the financial systems. The typical duties of a Systems Accountant include reviewing and upgrading systems, issue identification, designing internal system controls, and ensuring all financial data is secure.
An accounting system holds all financial data of the business including payroll, sales, purchases, budgeting, forecasting, etc. and is separate from other company IT systems. A standard finance system may also have a Business Intelligence tool that allows for intelligent reporting. The data will be stored in a secure environment and password-protected to avoid fraud and other nefarious activity.
